Billy was a clever and happy little bay pony who gave so much pleasure to so many riders throughout his life. With his Sharer he enjoyed rides on the beach, going to pony club and pony club camp, doing gymkhana games, cross country and show jumping. He loved competitions and when the whistle blew he set off like a rocket and jumped the nearest jump, not always the first one!
He was very good at putting people in their place, for example running off with women who thought they knew best – on HRH Princess Anne’s first visit, just before the musical ride, he disappeared down the aerodrome hotly pursued by lots of said female volunteers!
However, he seemed to sense riders who were not so able and looked after them beautifully. He never misbehaved with MRT riders in the Arena and was a joy to lead as he was always so forward going. We loved him loads and he was the best first pony in the world.
