Wilbur was a lovely 14.2hh piebald gypsy cob, he was only 5 when he came to West Fenton having been used previously at the Icelandic Trekking Centre in the Pentland Hills. Wilbur had a lovely temperament and was a fabulous safe hack although he was terrified of bicycles! On one occasion out with his Sharer, coming back from the beach he saw a group of racing bikes coming his way; Wilbur obviously thought it was a stampede of bikes and decided to tank off along the main road!
He had a lovely gentle nature but could be very stubborn when being led, for no reason at all he would stop which caused a pony jam on the day HRH Princess Anne came to officially open the arena! Wilbur was part of the pony carousel with Tuesday rider Abbi on board when he decided he would rather look at all the visitors than walk round in a circle, Princess Ann did notice and found it rather amusing!
Unfortunately although Wilbur was a fantastic hack he became prone to tripping in the arena which made him unsuitable as a therapy pony, he also preferred one to one attention as he could be anxious with different handlers. Wilbur went to a lovely lady and she was happy for us to visit him regularly, he was very lucky to have found his forever home.
