We welcome people of all ages and have equine facilitated therapy sessions for different age groups across the week. Wednesday mornings are busy with two groups of children from local schools as well as some individual participants in our Quiet Corner sessions.

The young people are primary and secondary age – coming from a pool of 15 schools across the Lothians – and face a variety of challenges, often impacting on their school life. At MRT they are given the chance to learn new skills that their peers might not.

They are up high, in charge of a large animal which can be empowering. There is not the same pressure to learn as there might be in school although it is a great learning experience.

Often teachers who attend with participants are surprised by how well their youngsters settle at MRT. They remark that children who may not be the most cooperative in class are keen to follow the instructions of the session Coaches, Gill and Niamh

This is Kody enjoying his time with therapy pony Rosa. The exercise he is doing is called Titanic and is used to strengthen legs and work on balance. It is the precursor to trotting which is a huge achievement for these guys.

Ben is by Kody’s side supporting and encouraging him.
