Muirfield Riding Therapy

The group began life in a muddy field with four borrowed ponies and a handful of hardy volunteers who had to battle with the elements. Riding was often cancelled because of bad weather.

But now the group has a wonderful Indoor Arena, the use of an Outdoor Arena as well as lots of lovely farm rides. The woods on the farm are a gentle ride out and are frequented by the Easter Bunny in spring and Teddy Bears are known to picnic there in the summer!

The ponies all live out in the fields around the Indoor Arena with field shelters. When they are on duty they are brought in and are groomed and tacked in Tie-ups just outside the Arena.

In April 2010 the Indoor Arena was extended and the new facilities include; an improved Viewing Gallery for Riders, Parents and Carers, with a coffee machine to enjoy whilst watching the session; a Physiotherapy Room for our therapists to carry out assessments of new Riders and plan their Therapy; a meeting room used for training, fundraising and social events; and a secure Reception Area.
