This weekend saw three days of The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) National Virtual Championships. This provides RDA competitors ‘…from across the UK, with an accessible platform to compete remotely, breaking down barriers related to travel, cost, and accessibility.’
Muirfield Riding Therapy (MRT) participants entered 17 Dressage and Show Jumping classes, which involved the classes being videoed here at our Centre, under competition rules, and then the videos were submitted to the RDA National Virtual Championships Judging Team.
The Championships are broadcast on RDA’s YouTube Channel and Facebook page. As there are so many classes, only the top 3 competitors’ videos in each class are broadcast. Those competitors had to wait to the broadcast to find out what position they came, but of course it was going to definitely be either 1st, 2nd or 3rd!
The challenge
The challenge of learning a dressage test or show jumping course, riding it accurately and performing to the best of the horse’s and participant’s ability, has many positive benefits for balance, control, mobility, memory, confidence and freedom
