We have 2 teams of Edinburgh Kiltwalkers this year, a team of 4 volunteers from our Wednesday morning therapy session are doing the Big Stroll, and a team of 3 participant family members are taking on the Mighty Stride on 13th September, for #TeamMRT.
Suzanne from our Big Stroll team,
“Our Wednesday morning session volunteers love MRT and many of us also love walking! This summer, a group of us [Suzanne, Daryl, Caroline and Noreen] committed to combine the two and take on the challenge of raising funds for MRT by tackling the Edinburgh Kiltwalk. So, during the long summer holidays, in the time we would normally be volunteering in the Wednesday morning therapy sessions for school children here at MRT we have been out walking each week instead.
We have covered miles and miles all over East Lothian from coast to countryside – replicating the reach of MRT’s participants and volunteers who come from all corners of the county and beyond. We’ve been supported by the wider Wednesday team who have joined us on training walks, shown us new routes and encouraged us along with scones, flapjacks and jelly babies!
There have been many adventures and much laughter along the way and lots of memories made. We have even had garden tours, pick your own rhubarb and a lavender farm visit woven into our weekly walks!
We have been steadily cranking up the mileage each week and are now almost ready to tackle the Big Stroll on Sunday 13th September which will take us all the way from Musselburgh to Murrayfield.
By supporting our team you are helping keep our MRT therapy service free and accessible to all ”

Hilary is leading our Mighty Stride team

“None of us have taken on anything like this before so it makes it even more special that we’re doing it for Muirfield as it genuinely is one of Zara’s favourite places!”
“We (Hilary, Zara’s mum, and Louise and Jocelyn, Zara’s Aunties) are taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise funds for Muirfield Riding Therapy, a charity that means so much to our family. Zara, who is 7, has been attending the RDA centre for the past 3 years, and the support she has received has made such a positive difference to her life.
The sessions have helped with her physiotherapy and physical disability, while also providing a wonderful, inclusive and supportive environment that helps her with her learning disability.
It’s not just the children who benefit either — as parents, we’ve found a lovely community of support and understanding among the other families who attend.
I’m fundraising to help ensure that Muirfield Riding Therapy can continue providing these amazing opportunities and support to children and families like ours.”
